The museum tells the story of the regiments of Somerset in war and peacetime and features the history of the following regiments:
- Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's)
- Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry
- West Somerset Yeomanry
- North Somerset Yeomanry
- Somerset Militia, Rifle Volunteers and Territorials
- The Light Infantry and its successor regiment, The Rifles
It reopened to the public in September 2011 after extensive restoration and re-design work and is part of The Museum of Somerset. The new military museum complements the story of Somerset, which is told in the main museum.
Did You Know?The Somerset Light Infantry's badge carries the name 'Jellalabad', to honour the courage of the regiment. Soldiers overcame a siege at the Afghan city in 1842 and an enemy force six times their number.

The Museum offers an outstanding insight to military deeds and life as a soldier from 1685 to the present day. Situated within the Museum of Somerset visitors can enjoy a marvellous opportunity to see state-of-the-art galleries and innovative interactive features.
