Research

The Somerset Heritage Centre is the main research resource for the history of Somerset. It houses several collections: archives and local studies, the Historic Environment Record and the museum reserve collection. It also holds the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society library.

If you want to do research into WWI, the Somerset Heritage Centre has produce this handy guide.

You can consult the archive and local studies collections and the Historic Environment Record in the searchroom, five or six days a week. The archive catalogue can be seen at home at www.somerset.gov.uk/dserve and the Historic Environment Record at www.somerset.gov.uk/her. As the searchroom can get very busy, please make an appointment before you visit, on 01823 337600 or [email protected].

If you would like to study the museum reserve collection, please contact the curators beforehand. If you have found an object you would like our Finds Liaison Officer to identify, please make an appointment on 01823 347457.
