A place of sanctity, healing and peace to soothe the soul and revive the spirits

Chalice Well is one of the best known, most loved and continuously used holy wells in Britain. The Well and surrounding gardens are enfolded in the vale between Chalice Hill and Glastonbury Tor. For thousands of years people have viewed the Well as a place of healing and restoration, the sanctity of which is still held today in the hearts of many who know of this special place. Chalice Well is a World Peace Garden which reflects the values of sustainability, oneness and world peace, via the gathering of people within a sense of community.

There are numerous ways people can experience the beauty of the Well. From visiting the gardens (which are open year round) to gathering with others at a variety of events throughout the year. Eight times a year the Trusts offers free entry from 10am – 12pm for people to celebrate as a community the Wheel of the Year festivals. A group meditation takes place at the Well, normally followed by refreshments and a ‘Conversation Café’ on the lower lawns in the gardens. This provides people with an opportunity to connect with others and share ideas, thoughts and beliefs.

Chalice Well Trust also offers a variety of other events throughout the year. These include, during the summer months Full Moon with Music evenings, a variety of Live Music Concerts and three day healing weekends in June and August. People are also offered the opportunity to attend retreat weekends such as ‘Co-creating with Nature’ and ‘In the Heart of the Well’. There are also ‘special events’ which celebrate an anniversary or an exhibition.

The waters of the well run red and are said to have healing properties. Legend has it that Joseph of Arimathea buried the Holy Grail here.

Commercial Hire & Services

The light timber-framed meeting room, within the gardens, is available for hire for meetings, training seminars and workshops. The room can accommodate 30 people in theatre style seating, or 15-20 for a more informal workshop type of event. Please contact the Chalice Well for more information.

There are two retreat houses on the Chalice Well Trust property which are used for retreat weekends and rented out to individuals and groups. Individuals and at least one member of a group booking need to be Companions. Companionship of the Well is open to all who love and wish to support this place and play an important role in maintaining the Trust’s work.
