Shopping 100 years ago

Cutterne Mill on the River Alham, just below Evercreech Junction, was a working mill until the Second World War. The bills on display, were found in a tin trunk in the mill building, in the summer of 2015. In it were similar invoices from shops and businesses in Castle Cary, Ditcheat, Alhampton, Lamyatt, Shepton Mallet, Evercreech and Bath. There were also receipts from the Somerset and South Dorset Railway and Midland Railway, recording the constant traffic of goods to and fro up the lane to Evercreech Junction.
